CAPTURE THE MOMENT

Underwater photography often requires a patience, but you need to stay alert to catch the moment, as the fish moves, when it is in one plane of focus and clear of obstructing fronds.

You need to be ready for the instant when the moving fish are in one plane of focus and lining up in one direction.
You may get bored watching a fish sitting motionless.

But make sure you are ready if it suddenly does something.

With a moving subject you need to watch how the image changes, and it catch it at the best moment.

GET IN POSITION

When I see a fast-moving shoal I try to get ahead and look for a good background , then catch them as they stream past.

Or I try and get in front and let them come towards me,  so that they turn away only as they reach me. If I have to swim round to get to the front, I try to give the shoal a wide berth, and avoid making eye contact.

See it coming, get ahead and in its path, and don’t forget the background counts too.

It’s best to be ahead of a whale shark, once you are behind you might as well let it go. I swam fast to get well ahead of its path and dived down at the last moment.

Finally, try these tips, but don’t be afraid to experiment!
